An Anthology of Russian Music
The fact that Natalya Kirillova, soloist at the Perm Opera is not only a star soprano, but also a detective, specialising in the mysteries of music history, was only made known to the general public in 2012. It was then that the television channel «Russian Culture» ran a show on vocal chamber music scripted by Kirillova, dedicated to Sergei Diaghilev.
Her latest project ‘An Anthology of Russian Romance’ has been thought up together with director Olga Enns, and also promises to lift the veil on many musical secrets and even to some extent restore historical justice. Because the centre of attention in this project is some rarely-heard and greatly anticipated vocal music from Russian composers.
The ‘Anthology’ will consist of nine monthly concerts which will be performed in the style of the literary and musical salons popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. And it's hard to imagine a more fitting setting for such a gathering than the Great Hall of the A.S. Pushkin Library in Perm, which is steeped in history and legends.
During the course of the season Natalya Kirillova will welcome soloists and accompanists of the Perm Opera, members of the orchestra and choir, as well as other musicians and composers, whose appearance will often surprise the audience.
