24 easy pieces for piano

The composition was written in 1878

Children’s Album is a collection of musical miniatures by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, intended for solo piano, which the composer dedicated to his nephew Vladimir Davydov. Along with similar compositions by Schumann, Grieg, Debussy, Ravel and Bartók, Tchaikovsky is a member of the “golden fund” of world musical literature for children. In 2014, the composer Dmitry Batin orchestrated all twenty-four pieces of the album, and in the 2015/2016 season, the Perm Opera presents to its young audience the familiar Children’s Album, but on a new scale.

Variations and Fugue on a Theme of Purcell

The composition was written in 1946

The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra by Benjamin Britten, as well as Prokofiev’s symphonic tale Peter and the Wolf, introduces young listeners to specific musical instruments. The idea of a guide through the exciting world of classical music arose after Britten’s work appeared on a film about the instruments of an orchestra. This film received such reaction that the composer decided to adapt the concept into an independent work. He dedicated the work to his predecessor, the composer Henry Purcell, who lived in the 17th century and whose work Britten drew inspiration from.
